PADI Open Water Diver

The world’s most popular entry-level scuba course and your first full certification.

Diver giving the OK sign during a PADI course

Starting point

Age 10+

Duration

3 to 5 days (2 to 3 days after eLearning)

Included

Instructor, materials and certification (confirmed in your quote).

Prerequisites

  • Age 10 or older (Junior Open Water Diver for ages 10 to 14).
  • Swimming: 200 m and 10 minutes floating or treading water in deep water.
  • Good health: medical questionnaire, with a doctor’s consultation if required.
  • No prior diving experience.

What you will gain

  • The physics, equipment, environment, dive planning and safety that every diver needs.
  • All essential skills in shallow water: mask clearing, buoyancy control, sharing air and more.
  • Four open-water dives: the first two to 12 m, the last two to 18 m (ages 10 and 11 stay at 12 m).
  • A certification recognised worldwide, which lets you dive with a buddy anywhere.

How the course works

There are three parts: knowledge development (five segments, each with a short quiz), five water skill sessions, and four open-water dives. The more theory you do at home with PADI eLearning, the less classroom time you need. If you start the course elsewhere you can finish it with us on a referral. After this course, continue with PADI Adventure Diver or PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

What next? Your next steps

The Tsereve Challenge: Everest in reverse

100+ metres is the Mount Everest of scuba diving. Far fewer people have dived that deep than have stood on top of Everest. Join the challenge: training, warm-up dives and the descent to 100+ m. Start from zero or from any point in your diving, even as a Tec Trimix 65 diver.

The final programme includes a certificate and a t-shirt. We run it in cooperation with Dive Aqaba.
